Experience

Katie was appointed Chief Executive, Copper in September 2024. In this role, she leads a team of over 7,000 mining and metals professionals working across five continents.

Prior to this, she was President of National Grid Ventures, where she led the development, financing and operation of large-scale energy infrastructure assets.

With a career spanning 3 continents, including senior roles [across the natural resources sector] at Shell, Anadarko, Equinor and BG Group, Katie brings deep operational, commercial and strategic experience.

She is passionate about solving complex technical, operational and financial challenges to deliver value from large, global projects and to support the growth of Rio Tinto’s Copper business.

• High-scale international leadership of complex extractive assets, with direct oversight of multi-continental operations, technical optimisation and large-scale project execution pipelines.
• Extensive corporate finance and business development capability, drawing on a strong track record of directing large scale global acquisitions, asset divestments and major project financing within the extractive sector.
• Keen understanding of commercial opportunities to drive customer decarbonisation and new energy technology initiatives at scale from oversight of Rio Tinto’s copper portfolio and experience in energy infrastructure and renewables.
