Experience

Simon became Chief Executive on 25 August 2025. He has been on the Executive Committee since 2018, most recently as Chief Executive, Iron Ore, which he helped reshape through financial discipline and improvements in operational and safety performance. Before that he served as Rio Tinto’s first Chief Commercial Officer.

Simon brings over 25 years of successful experience in operating, commercial and business development roles across a wide range of commodities and geographies, including as Managing Director of Rio Tinto’s Salt, Uranium, Borates and Diamonds businesses. He has a strong commitment to values-based performance culture and strengthening partnerships with stakeholders.

Dedicated to shaping Rio Tinto’s next chapter of growth and delivering sector-leading operational performance, Simon is focused on rigorous capital discipline, the strategic optimisation of the asset portfolio, and ensuring that long-term growth is underpinned by genuine partnerships with local communities.
